Principal’s Report

Last week I attended the Principal’s Forum in Roma, along with 31 principals from the Toowoomba Diocese. A number of guest speakers presented including our Executive Director, Dr Pat Coughlan, the Director of Teaching and Learning, Jim Midgely, the Director of Formation and Identity, Ken Avenell and a number of Education Officers. The purpose of these days is to develop the capacity of principals in our diocese and to provide valuable information to inform our school strategic plans and policies in order to improve the academic success of all students in our schools. The theme for this term’s forum was, ‘Our The Horizon’, where we looked at planning for the future. Over the 5 days we discussed a ‘contemporary’ Catholic identity framework, unpacked our school data and Strategic Plan, explored the skills of influential leaders and analysed the new streamlined planning process – Planning for Personalised Learning (P4PL).

This week, I would like to warmly welcome Miss Emily Conlin to our school community. Miss Conlin has been appointed as the Year 5/6 teacher for the remainder of the year. Miss Conlin joins us from the UK and has 6 years teaching experience. Mrs Fagan and Mrs Haig will work alongside Miss Conlin for the first couple of weeks to ensure a smooth transition for both her and the students. I am sure you will join me in welcoming her to our school community.

Have a great week.

Middle Leader/LST Report

The teachers have begun working on the Planning for Personalised Learning (P4PL) element of their unit planning which caters for the individualised learning needs of students in the class. This element is included in our Diocesan Learning Profile (DLP) which is the single repository for teachers to document their planning, teaching, assessing and reporting of every student. This means that teachers now have a place to formally document the many adjustments and differentiations they make to cater for the learning needs and styles of students. Teachers use their own observations and assessments, standardised test results and specialist reports to help them make decisions about what adjustments will best help students learn the content and skills required from the Australian Curriculum. If you have any questions about how the P4PL will be completed for your child/children, please contact the teachers to discuss this further.

Improving the educational outcomes for students is our core business and we are committed to doing the best job possible for all students!

Mrs Haig.
