Principal’s Report
Last week I attended the 2018 National Religious Education Symposium in Brisbane along with many other religious educators and APRE’s from Dioceses’ all over Australia. The theme was ‘Religious Education in a change of era’. A number of national and international guest speakers conducted workshops over the two days around this theme. The workshops I attended included discussions around Spirituality, Indigenous Spirituality, Formation, Classroom Religious Education, Theology and Leadership.
Mr Chris Lowney explained that we are living in a world where the face of the Catholic Church and Catholic Education is very different to what has been experienced in the past. He explained it as a time of ‘VUCA’ – vulnerable, uncertainty, complex, ambiguity. However, we need to live problems as challenges not as obstacles.
The framing paper of Religious Education in Australian Catholic Schools written by the National Catholic Education Commission explains that the aim of Catholic Education in Australia today is “to develop students’ knowledge and understanding of Christianity in the light of Jesus and the Gospel. It expands students’ spiritual awareness and religious identity, fostering their capacities and skills of discerning, interpreting, thinking critically, seeking truth and making meaning. It challenges and inspires their service to others and engagement in the Church and the world.”
The way in which we achieve this at Sacred Heart is through two distinct but not separate areas of Faith Formation and Religious Education. Faith Formation includes retreats (staff and students), liturgical celebrations, ethos and prayer while Religious Education includes our classroom curriculum. We will continue to review what this looks like for our school to ensure high-quality Religious Education is being experienced by every student.
I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable break.
Polly Crawford.
Prep/1 News
What a term! We have had a lot of fun, learning so many new and exciting things in the Prep/1 classroom. We have developed our sentence writing, progressed in reading and sight words, learnt about animal survival and built a habitat, discovered the meaning behind different celebrations and are having a party to finish off the term. A lot of learning has been done and there is plenty more to come in Term 4. Have a safe and happy holiday!
Mrs Standfield.
Year 2/3 News
In the Year 2/3 class we have been working hard, engaging in the wide variety of different technology that Sacred Heart has to offer. Our class has been lucky enough to be the first class to use the new school bee bots. The students had so much fun interacting with the bee bots, really focusing on directional movements. Here are some snap shots, we hope you enjoy! Have a safe holiday and see you when we return.
Kind Regards,
Miss Fitzpatrick and the Year 2/3 class.

Year 3/4 News
Wow! Can you believe that it is already Week 10? The 3/4 students have been busy working hard to complete their assessment pieces. In Literacy, we have been learning how to answer questions from the perspective of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory characters. We cannot wait to perform these over this week. We have also put on our designer hats over the last week, building our moving toys. A big thank you to the Year 2/3 class who judged our toys and helped us with our scientific investigations.
Have a restful term break,
Miss Taylor.

Year 5/6 News
This week in Year 5/6 we have been transforming ourselves into news readers. We broadcasted to the class from a range of news channels including Cully news and CDN (Cunnamulla District News). We reported live from the studios to tell the viewers about our school expedition. We were lucky enough to get live interviews from students who completed the challenge! Although there were a couple of bloopers we had a very successful filming shoot and thoroughly enjoyed watching our performances back.
Great job team!
Noah Tuckwell and John Roberts presenting live.

Sports Camp
A number of our Year 5/6 students headed off to Thargomindah yesterday to participate in the small schools sport camp. There are a number of coaches holding lessons on basketball, swimming, gymnastics, tennis and many more exciting games. To partake in this camp, students had to display exemplary behaviour and have an attendance rate of above 95% for Term 3. Miss Emily Conlin and Miss Arny Simpson have joined the students on this camp. I am sure everyone will come back with exciting stories to tell and some sports games to share.
Book Week
In Week 8, the students of Sacred Heart Cunnamulla dressed up as their favourite book character to celebrate Book Week. There were lots of fantastic costumes and props worn. Students participated in a parade of their costumes in the quadrangle where Mrs Jane Murphy, Mrs O’Sullivan and Miss Crawford judged our dress up winners. During library lessons with Mrs Fagan, students explored the books which were short-listed to win awards.
