School News - Week 6!

What a busy time it is in our school community!

Congratulations to our students who were involved in the District Athletics Carnival on Monday.  Thank you to all staff, volunteers, and families who supported the event. Your contributions helped make the day a memorable success! Sacred Heart Primary School was awarded the overall winners of the carnival.

A special congratulations to Lake Wilson who travelled to Brisbane last weekend with Deadly Choices and was able to experience playing football at Suncorp Stadium and meeting various football players.

Important dates this week:

Wednesday - School photos (students wear green school shirts)

Thursday - Book Week costume dress-up.  Parade at 8:30am (followed by assembly).

Friday - Humphrey B Bear concert (Prep-Yr 2s attending)

Saturday - 110th School Reunion.  10am-12pm Morning Presentation.  All students requested to attend (students wear white school shirts).  Donations of morning tea appreciated.

Go For Gold!

Exciting progress is happening with our Go For Gold! project as work on the big shed is officially well underway. The construction team has hit the ground running, with foundations laid and the framework quickly taking shape. It’s fantastic to see this long-anticipated project coming to life, promising to bring expanded space, improved functionality, and a fresh new look to our facilities. We’ll continue to share updates as the build progresses.

Book Week

Please note the change of date! We will be holding the Book Week parade this Thursday, 21st August, at 8.30am followed by Assembly.  Students are encouraged to come to school dressed in a costume of a character from their favourite book.  A full school assembly will follow (instead of Friday).

Our Book Fair will be set up in the library this week. Students are welcome to come by after school on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday to explore what's on offer!

110th Year Reunion Weekend

This weekend we celebrate a remarkable milestone - the 110th St Catherine’s / Sacred Heart School Reunion. It’s a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the rich history of our school community and reconnect with familiar faces. As part of the festivities, Sacred Heart students will be presenting a special performance on Saturday between 10am and 12pm. We ask that all students attend in their white school uniform. Morning tea will be served during the event, and we’d love donations of morning tea items.  Please let the office know if you’re able to contribute. Let’s come together to make this a joyful and memorable occasion for everyone involved.

There will be a number of activities happening over the weekend.  You can register your attendance through the invitation below.

Regards,

Mrs Belinda Tolete (Learning Support teacher & Deputiser)

Classroom Snapshots

PREP with Miss Ball

Last week, our Prep students were excited to visit the Kindy, where they shared their enthusiasm for learning and play. The visit provided an opportunity to build connections with younger peers and explore a different learning environment. Back in the classroom, students have been engaging with early literacy through the UFLI program, focusing on the letters R, H, L, and K. In addition, they have been working with great dedication on a variety of art projects in preparation for our upcoming show display. Their creativity and commitment have been truly impressive.

Year 1 with Miss Charlton

Over the last few weeks, the Year 1 students have been exploring the weather, how it changes and what impacts this has on our daily lives. We read Ernie Dances to the Didgeridoo and learnt about the seasons in Arnhem Land and compared them to our seasons. The students enjoyed learning the different seasons and exploring the activities that people do in different types of weather.

Year 2 with Mr Smith

Last week in Year 2, students tackled two-digit subtraction with confidence and growing independence, using strategies to solve problems and explain their thinking. In English, we explored conjunctions like and, but, so, and or to create incredible compound sentences on a variety of topics. Our HASS lessons took us on a journey through time as we compared toys from the 1960s to those we play with today—sparking lots of curiosity, conversation, and connections to personal experiences.

Year 3/4 with Miss Carter

In HASS this term, our Grade 3/4 students are continuing their thoughtful exploration of colonisation and its lasting impact on Australia, with a focus on First Nations perspectives. A highlight of our learning has been the weekly visits from Deadly Choices, who join us every Thursday to share valuable insights into healthy eating. Students have loved discovering the differences between traditional bush foods available before colonisation and the foods introduced afterwards. It's been a fascinating blend of history, culture, and health—sparking meaningful conversations that will continue to unfold across the term!

Year 5/6 with Miss Walker

In Mathematics we’ve been looking into multiples and factors, a key concept of multiplication and division. The year 6s have also dived into prime, composite and square numbers.
In English we have started writing our individual narrative stories, connecting to our class novel Runt by Craig Silvey. Students have been working hard on their orientation, problem and resolution.

Extra Curricular Activities

  • Monday – Chess Club – 3-4pm Library (Years 4-6 welcome)
  • Tuesday – Instrumental Music Lessons Online
  • Thursday – Choir Practice – 8am Year 1 Classroom (All welcome)

Class Awards

Uniform Policy

The school uniform represents the pride we have for our children and our school.  A smart, neat and user-friendly uniform encourages the children to take pride in their appearance and in the school.  The school uniform requirements:

Hats:  Our school policy is ‘NO HAT – NO PLAY’. A green school hat must be worn and can be purchased form the office.

Jewellery: The only jewellery allowed is one set of fine studs or sleepers, a chain with some form of religious significance and watches.

Nail Polish:  Nail polish is not to be worn.

Hair:  Children’s hair must be neat and tidy.  If hair is below the collar it needs to be tied back with appropriate white or green accessories.  It is expected that hairstyles reflect the code of dress required by the school.  The colouring of hair and unusual hairstyles are not acceptable.

Tuition Fees

School Fees will be sent home this week, please pay by Friday 12th September 2025. At Sacred Heart, we have several payment options for your convenience: Cash, Cheque, ETPOS, Direct Debit and Centrepay. For further details on these payment options please see the school office.

Student Protection

At Sacred Heart the safety and wellbeing of our students is our highest priority. All children should grow up free of violence or exploitation and be able to learn in a safe and supported environment. Schools have a number of specific child protection reporting obligations that are detailed in our Student Protection Processes and Guidelines.

It is a legislative requirement that all non-state schools have at least two nominated staff members to whom a student can report the behaviour of another staff member that the student considers inappropriate.  We call these specially trained staff members School Student Protection Contacts, or SSPCs.  Each SSPC has been nominated by the principal in recognition of their integrity, approachability and knowledge in the area of student protection.  Whilst students are encouraged to speak up to any trusted adult in the school community, it is important that they know they can access these specific staff members at any time should they have worries, queries or concerns. You will have noticed posters throughout the school depicting our current SSPCs.  The SSPCs are also published on our school website along with information about our student protection processes.  In everything we do at Sacred Heart Primary School student safety is our highest priority, therefore the SSPCs at our school are key personnel in our overall safeguarding processes.

If a student wants to talk to someone about harm, abuse or inappropriate behaviour toward themselves or others, they can speak to a trusted staff member or one of our School Student Protection Contacts (SSPCs). The SSPCs receive additional training and are identified in the student protection posters displayed around the school.

Summary documents have been developed for parents and caregivers about our student protection obligations and our broader strategy for maintaining safe school environments.

Further information on all of the above topics can be found on the Toowoomba Catholic Schools website at the link below:

Our Schools Student Protection Contacts are:

  • Mrs Carolyn Crick (Administration Officer)
  • Mrs Cara Haig (Principal)
