Principal’s Report
This week I am away in Dalby for the Principal’s Forum. This year’s theme is, ‘Many Voices, One Spirit’. There are a number of guest speakers presenting over the week covering the topics of Catholic Mission, System Efficacy, Numeracy, Technology and eLearning, Staff Wellbeing and Mental Health. I look forward to returning next week and sharing my learnings with you all.
Last Thursday at the Athletics carnival we saw a great competition between Xavier and McAuley with McAuley only winning by 5 points. Well done to all our students whom showed great sportsmanship and support throughout the day. A special thanks to all the Parents who came to support our students and to Ethan Capewell from CACH for suppling the students fresh fruit throughout the day. It was also great to see our Show Display came second, well done to everyone for your fantastic efforts.
Our Year 2-6 students have been invited to participate in the Queensland Maroon’s Fan Day on Tuesday 28th May in Charleville. This is a great opportunity for our students and we thank Ethan Capewell for organising this. Best of luck to all our students participating in the District Athletics Carnival this week. I’m sure you will all try your very best and represent our school with pride.
Next week we welcome Mrs Suzanne Cavanagh our Senior Education Leader from Toowoomba Catholics Schools Office. She will be visiting classrooms and working with me on my Principal goals and Annual Action Plan.
All classes have started assessment. It is important that all students are attending school every day. Report cards will be sent out at the end of this term. I hope you all have a great week.

Prep/1 News
Week 6 is upon us and learning is in full swing. Prep/1 students will be starting major assessment tasks in the next couple of weeks, so please make sure you come to school every day. Reading tests have begun and students are progressing well. Please ensure you are reading at home every night and practicing your sight words daily. A reminder to parents that homework needs to be completed and brought in every week on a Friday for marking. If time for homework is an issue, the school provides homework center for students on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon until 3:45pm.
Prep/1 would like to welcome a new student to our class. He came in Week 4 and has settled in well to class routines. This new arrival brings an opportunity for all Prep/1 students to be kind to one another and continue to follow school rules. On a final note, the Prep/1 students who participated in the athletics carnival last week did a fantastic job. All students tried their best and represented their sports house with pride. Well done!

Year 2/3 News
As we hit the mid stage of Term Two, Year 2 and 3’s focus has turned to honing our skills and presenting our findings. Literacy has seen a continued growth in developing our verbs, conjunctions and moved into common, proper, concrete nouns and pronouns. This has seen a nice growth, which has really aided the students descriptive writing. Recent reading testing has kept our students busy the last two weeks also. HaSS and Science has opened our imaginations, as we look at the World around us and how Earth fits into this amazing solar system. Good luck to all students for the Athletics Carnival and hopefully Districts to follow.

Year 3/4 News
This fortnight has been very busy for the 3-4 classroom as the students have been working hard writing their information texts for English and are getting ready to design their very own web page to post this information on! As a class we wrote an acrostic poem about our lovely home Cunnamulla, then wrote it in our best handwriting for the handwriting competition at the show. The students also contributed to the show, by using a variety of materials to make lifelike Australian animal artworks. In science next week, the students will be conducting an exciting investigation where the students will create their very own sundials which we will be observing and collecting data from. In HPE students have been practising their team building skills with ball games! Where excited to see all our hard work come together as assessment time approaches.

Year 5/6 News
We have been working incredibly hard over the last couple of weeks in the 5/6 classroom. We have used sizzling starts, expanded noun phrases and complex sentences to create wonderful narratives. Some of which were used in the show competition which was a resounding success! In maths we have been working on comparing and ordering fractions, simple when you think of them as a piece of pizza! Finally, in science, we have been learning amazing new facts about our new topic – Earth and Space. We are looking forward to our visit to the Cosmos Centre in Charleville – more information to follow in the coming weeks.
Keep up the good work team!
