Principal’s Report
BGA Grant
Last week, Lester Ehrlich (Elia Architecture) and Paul Bryant (TCSO Facilities Development Manager) visited Sacred Heart to discuss and work on the plans for our new school library, amenities and undercover area. I am excited to share draft plans for you below. This new building will be a wonderful edition to our school to ensure we continue to meet the contemporary needs of our students.

Habits of the Mind and Habits of the Heart
This fortnight, students are focusing on what it means to have courage and the importance of persisting through tasks. We remind students that when we learn new topics or concepts we need to work through the learning pit to gain a deeper understanding of the topic. When we are in the learning pit things might get tricky, we might feel confused, we might feel challenged, but these feelings are ok. By failing and trying again we can work our way to success.
Miss Polly Crawford
Principal
Prep/1 News
The Prep/1 students have settled in extremely well and have begun learning about many new topics. They have enjoyed learning about toys that move, the emotions we feel in the different ‘zones of regulation’, counting in 1s and in 2s and about words that rhyme. They thoroughly enjoyed showing Mr Savage their counting skills using the interactive whiteboard. Our Prep students have begun learning about concepts about print while Year 1 students have started up guided reading lessons. They have been focusing on applying learnt reading strategies.

Prep/1 Teacher
Year 2 News
Term 1 has kicked started and we are busy bees in Year 2. Students have begun responding to literature by retelling and sequencing stories they have read, learning about the continents and oceans of the world, modelling and representing 3-digit numbers and choreographing their Fete dance. Students enjoyed crafting and displaying their reading goals in the classroom. They also presented their skip counting dance to Mr Savage during his visit last week.

Year 3/4 News
This fortnight the year 3-4 class have immersed themselves into learning what it would be like to live in a neighbouring country specifically, in China and Japan! The students have been exploring native animals, location on maps, currency and natural/ man-made features. As an extra-curricular the students have designed their own lantern for the Chinese New Year and mastered the paper folding art of origami! In science, the students have been participating in hands on investigations exploring how liquids and solids are influenced by temperature! The students and I are looking forward to performing our dance for the fete, I’ve asked all students to dress in black as we will be costumed as ‘cheeky monkeys’ Also, we are looking forward to the districts swimming carnival and will be cheering all of our Sacred Heart champions on next Friday!
Miss Sore
Year 3/4 Teacher

Year 5/6 News
This week in Science we made volcanoes! We used citric acid, bicarbonate of soda and food colouring to create an erupting volcano of lava. We will use this to scientifically test the viscosity of lava and see if high viscosity or low viscosity lava does the most damage. Can you all remember what our word of the week “viscosity” means?

Student Protection
At Sacred Heart the safety and wellbeing of our students is our highest priority. All children should grow up free of violence or exploitation and be able to learn in a safe and supported environment. Schools have a number of specific child protection reporting obligations that are detailed in our Student Protection Processes and Guidelines.
If a student wants to talk to someone about harm, abuse or inappropriate behaviour toward themselves or others, they can speak to a trusted staff member or one of our School Student Protection Contacts (SSPCs). The SSPCs receive additional training and are identified in the student protection posters displayed around the school.
Summary documents have been developed for parents and caregivers about our student protection obligations and our broader strategy for maintaining safe school environments.
Further information on all of the above topics can be found on the Toowoomba Catholic Schools website at the link below:
